3 New Privates in Sarasota
« on: March 06, 2006, 07:52:11 AM »
No less than three very exclusive private clubs have opened in the Sarasota / Bradenton area since November. They include The Founders Club by RTJ Jr., The Concession by JWN in collaberation with Tony Jacklin, and The Ritz Carlton Members Club of Sarasota by Tom Fazio. Has anyone had the chance to play theses courses yet? If so any comments??

I understand Sunrise has closed and Foxfire will be downsizing from 27 to 18 holes. Have any other courses opened or closed in the Sarasota area?

I've played the Founders Club. There are five par five holes and the driver is taken out of the hands of the player on four of them unless the player can carry the ball 260+.

It is built on an old horse farm. The shaping is extensive and the bunkering and greens are ok.

I'd give it a four at best.

Rob, don't give up on Sunrise just yet.  I gather there is a chance it may reopen at some point, but have been told not to bet on it.

One of the two courses at The Oaks will be closing in the next couple of months for a makeover by Arthur Hills.  Scheduled to reopen by the end of the year.

Also, Laurel Oaks has had one of its 2 courses "doctored" by Rees Jones to keep up with the 3 new courses.
