It is astounding what goes unseen when you look at something over and over again.

This summer Sweeney came to Cape Arundel, and he noticed that the 2nd and 8th, the 4th and 7th, the 5th and 11th, the 10th and 13th, and the 9th and 18th greens were so very close together that they seem to at one time have been double greens.

I had noticed that these pairs were exceedingly close together (3-5 yards tops) but it had never occurred to me after fifty rounds that they might at one time have been conjoined.

We started wondering about just how cool it would be if Cape Arundel had FIVE double greens. It has been pointed out by many who know that the greens there are top notch, perhaps world class.

Our train of thought was derailed by the awesome spectacle of George Bush Sr. making an understated yet regal appearance on the first tee.

I have asked a number of Travis experts about this. It seems that he did build a number of greens very very close together, but that there is no evidence that he built double greens.

What's the story? If Cape Arundel had five double greens it's already significant charm would be through the roof.

Metaphor is social and shares the table with the objects it intertwines and the attitudes it reconciles. Opinion, like the Michelin inspector, dines alone. - Adam Gopnik, The Table Comes First

Let me get this straight, Michael....

YOU are asking US about golf in Maine? ???

Ian Andrew tends to be the Travis expert around here....

I haven't seen the feature you've described at any of the three Travis courses I've played. But that doesn't mean you are not correct....
