NEW My Home Course * - Angels Crossing Golf Club

Ran has been kind enough to indulge me in a little experiment.  On the MHC section is a link to my submission for Angels Crossing Golf Club.  I asked Ran to let me use a link so that I could update it based on what else you all would like to know or see.  After getting your feedback, I plan to update it with whatever you guys would like to see more of, construction plans, construction photos, more detailed hole or green descriptions, seeding, maint practices, prairie features etc. and submit a final version to Ran for safe keeping at GCA.

It is a bit large but certainly worth the wait.

Thanks to Ran for humoring me in this effort!

Jim deserves high praise for what he did there. I am looking forward to another visit. There are some REALLY fun holes there and one time around just didn't do it justice.
At least I know he will let me visit if I bring along an extra set of my clubs.

The maps at the top of the review show 27 holes, but only 18 are reviewed.  Why is this?  Is that a separate nine hole facility nearby? Thanks.

Good eye senor Lyon. We have only completed the first 18 holes to date.  Five of the third nine holes are done in sub grade and were completed as part of the driving range construction.  The range and short game areas are open by the way.  The third nine will completed as lots are sold of in the Greensborough portion of the development with constructon expected to begin after this years harvest is completed.  We did this to keep debt levels, and costs to our customers as low as possible while we expose our market to this style of golf experience.  Good question!

Just make sure you bring the mongrel mashie with you!  I love that club.  I have a few more for you to look at as well.  Went on a shopping spree down in Florida.  Even found a couple Stewarts, but didn't know what the hell I was looking at to pay what the was asking.  He also has a waterfall wedge like Hlands that has been filled with brass.  He'd probably part with it for $50.  Let me know via IM if you want contact info.

How windy is the site?

What surprises have their been between the experience expected during construction and the experience of players on the course?

Can you keep the course firm and fast given local soil and weather conditions?

hats off to you. You really did it right, in every sense of the word:

A fine, public golf course in the heart of a community, and one that serves that community. Just great!

I hope to have a chance to play it come spring time.

By the way, to answer your question: no, I for one don't need any more info (the pictures and hole descriptions are enough for me), but I can imagine others enjoying/benefitting from all the things you suggest, i.e. construction photos, green descriptions, maintenance practices.

There is a good breeze most of the time, mostly from the west when it picks up it comes from south west.  Being the elevated land on the east edge of a prairie that is the high spot coming inland off Lake Michigan helps though.  When we do get the big wind it flips and comes from the east.  The east days are a blast to play in as every thing is turned upside down.  The small lake to or west also allows us to have  a nice breeze when most would think its calm in town.

Little features continue to pop up and influence play of the course.  I wouldn't say there are many real surprises though.  Every aspect was pretty well thought out by the brain trust all of us thinking on different levels.

The soil type is the key to our firm nature.  The fines that exist in our prairie loam top soil set up after watering creating a thin hard layer in the top 1/4" of soil.  The ball really scoots if you like to play pasture pool, I mean the ground game.

I could probaby get tickets for the game.  You all could stay at my place and we could go down and tailgate.  The food will be excellent, the beverages will be flowing and we will have one obnoxious Irish fan for entertainment.  Let me know as the game approaches.
