Which course is this? 5
« on: January 22, 2006, 01:04:44 PM »
Three cards, one as the course was in 1896, another as Ross laid it out in 1920 or so, and the last as it was in 1993.  The visiting GB and I Ryder Cup team played a team of local professionals here in the 1930s and lost heavily.

It's in Canada, if that's any help, and the GB and I Ryder Cup team played there in 1935

Rosedale - a classic Tom Bendelow original design!!   ;D  With much rework (thankfully) by Ross and a few others since.

Having lost heavily to the Americans at Ridgewood the British and Irish team went on to Rosedale, losing 9-5 to a team of local Canadian professionals:  Willie Lamb, Arthur Hulbert, Bill Kerr, Gordie Brydson, Lou Cumming, Willie Spittal, Lex Robson, Bob Cunningham, Hugh Borthwick and Rosedale's Jimmy Johnstone.

The end papers of Rosedale's Centenary Book show the Masterplan of the 'Proposed Improvements' of 1988 by Bob Cupp.  What is the work like?  I only ask because his work at East Sussex National (his only wiork in the UK?) is pretty unmemorable.

I've never seen it personally, but according to the Carrick Design website, they've done some renovations on Rosedale, so maybe Ian Andrew will chime in on this thread with some knowledge of the present state of this course, one of Toronto's most exclusive.
