Highland Oaks, Dothan, AL (RTJ Trail)
« on: January 07, 2006, 11:13:32 PM »
Will be driving down this way from Atlanta later this winter.  Any thoughts on the course?  How does it compare to others on the Trail?  Any options that are better on this route?  Thanks.

If you are driving down I-85 I would prefer Grand National (see the current thread on Lake and Links courses there), but Dothan's RTJ courses are very playable.  One nine has a 700 yd par 5 but you can really play it as a par 5, there is a pretty good kick down the fairway.  I think I hit driver-7 wood-7 wood a few years ago!

JNC  Capstone Club in Tuscaloosa  is a challenging course over interesting terrain.   Gil Hanse  and Jim Wagner crafted this out of a former quarry . the course is the home for one of Alabama's large universities and has a website. Im not sure if this works logistically for you.

Also at some point soon try to see Cuscowilla, a superb Coore and Crenshaw course about 80-90 minutes east of  Atlanta. Outstanding  architecture with an amazing variety of holes.
have a good trip
