Tillie's terrific two's Exercise
« on: December 20, 2005, 01:53:20 PM »
Quote
At this point I want to
get swinging into the game with a
good, reaching second to the green

SFGC says it all

Pinion's original 2nd used to fit, but now the ball goes too far. But on the occasions, it doesn't, it still fits.

Pebble, for sure, when going for it.
Sand Hills
Rustic Canyon?

If anything, this hole's exercise is showing that the distance issue is clearly making it hard to come up w/ holes.(for me anyway)
So many holes that used to require good reaching shots, are now less so, with good drives.

I'll give it more thought.

Adonis,
Methinks me had a cerebral blowout.  His "at this point" means ... ?

Ohhh, I get it. I'm just used to saying it on my fourth shot.

Aye, Lad of soon to be many more lands-

What just hit me while re-reading the quote was the next word...

I

... Even Tillie can't get away from the subjective.

For you down unders....

Hide your women

Except for maybe one really really decent and deserving soul who just happens to like beer and groundsmen.

Adam -
Are you asking for what 2d holes we like, or what holes we'd like as 2d holes. Tillie's composite course seem to be an exercise in the latter - for instance, his second hole, which includes the qualities you quote above, is (Old) Merion #11.

I was hoping to identify holes built after Tillies reference to 11 @ Merion, which turns out not to be the current Merion.

Holes that fit the description, and are placed in the routing according to A.W.'s optimal.
