Does anyone know anything about the piece of land just south of the Monterey Peninsula?

I don't know any way to describe what piece of land I'm talking about except that if you look at Google Earth and follow the coastline south from Pebble Beach, it is the last part of land jutting out just before the satellite goes to bad detail.  The land looks pretty barren and appears to be a great setting for some dramatic golf holes ala Cypress Point Club.  

I've never been to this area of the country - still saving my pennies for the golf trip there (and the account takes a hit every other year as I decide to go back to Bandon.)  Deep down, I think I'm waiting to find out my long lost uncle is a member at Cypress before I "waste" a trip out there just to play Pebble and the other public venues.

Has anyone ever viewed this land I mention in person?  What is it currently used for?  Does it appear firsthand to be as great a golf setting as it looks on my computer?  What is the terrain like?

Indeed I am.  Is the entire point the state reserve.  When I look at Google Earth again, I now see the state reserve name, but it isn't clear what all is included.  Based on the photos you provided, I suspect that it encompasses the entire area.

Use Google Maps (for Carmel, CA. - the non-satellite page) and it has an outline of the Reserve

I couldn't resist scrolling a bit north to Cypress Point.  Anyone familiar with the course know what the red vegetation appearing on the rocks around 16 is?  Is that a seasonal look?  I've never noticed it in the pictures I've seen of the course.

I played the course a few years back and I believe that the red colored vegetation you're refering to is the ice plant they have all around the course, especially on the ocean holes. (Not sure about the scientific name). Tough stuff, it grows low to the ground and the leaves resemble the aloe vera plant. You don't want to be in it!
