PGA Media Day at Medinah, with comments from Rees Jones
« on: November 25, 2005, 12:22:52 PM »
With any luck, below is the transcript from "media day" at Medinah last august, discussing upcoming preparations for the PGA there and the changes to the course.  Rees Jones discusses in detail the changes to the course.  Talks a lot about making greens "more receptive" while making the holes more difficult.

That was one hellacious beaver.

Using the complaints of the players as a way to determine the architectural changes needed to a golf course seems odd. Unless you take those complaints and do just the opposite. Like making the greens less receptive.

"...they're going to really see a different golf course, a golf course that really has more definition because we took some of the blindness out like on No. 1, No. 8."

-Rees Jones

What DOES that mean?

More definition?

Though I think this quote sums up the logical flaw in modern architecture:

"I also believe to some degree we made this golf course a little bit more accommodating even for the member because we took out the trees, so it's easier -- they have a little more latitude than they did prior to our work."

-Rees Jones
