Michael,

You didn't even notice the gate?!?!? Don't you know Anatomy of a Golf Course is required reading for membership at this website? ;)

I suppose the gate is more apparent to those who might be considering getting home in two. Otherwise, you are just looking for a path to the layup to 100 yards, which the gate may not restrict too much.

I have read Doak's book and enjoyed it very much. I guess my lack of noticing the "gate" matches my lack of "game." It's an excellent hole and Black Forest is an excellent course... hard and challenging, but fun. Next time I play Black Forest I will definitely pay attention on #10!!!
