How Do Architects Market Themselves?
« on: November 03, 2005, 01:37:54 PM »
As I have said and written before, design as a profession is a social or collaborative process. In order for a designer to show his or her talents, they must first be included in the plan of someone else. A designer must appeal to others in order to be given the opportunity to work on their projects.

So how do golf architects make these appeals? How do they market themselves? What are some of the ways the architects connect with opportunities?

Adam,

Joining the provincial or state superintendents association can be a good place to start. Through meetings and events, architects get to know the superintendents, and vice versa. Soon, problem areas and possible solutions are discussed, and a renovation job lands on your desk! Hopefully that gets the ball rolling as the positive results lead to consultation work. Once you get your foot in the door, well designed projects speak for themselves (although not always), and word of mouth leads to new opportunities.
