Pacific Coast Am at Bandon
« on: August 03, 2005, 11:27:59 PM »
The Pacific Coast Amateur is being played at Bandon Dunes Resort through Friday. Here is the link: http://www.pacificcoastamateur.com/

They are alternating between Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes. Wie slayer Clay Ogden is leading at -3 and is one of three players under par. Winds over 20 mph are expected to continue. Thursday play is at Doak's Pacific Dunes.

Clay Ogden retains the lead throught the third round. He is at -3 with an eagle at PD #18. The only other player under par is at -1. Winds continued out of the north at 20+. They also had to contend with a 4.6 magnitude earthquake 75 miles away. Bandon Dunes tomorrow.

Of interest to me, in checking the statistics through two rounds at Pac, is that #1 and #17 are playing as the two toughest holes in relation to par.  Of course #5 at Bandon is most resistant to scoring, and #12 always sneaking in there, playing much more difficult than it's #18 handicap would suggest, and with a front cup placement yesterday.  The pair of short holes on the back side at Bandon are, to my way of thinking at least, a wonderful and demanding set.

Both courses are in their prime summer condition, firm and fast, with the greens between 9 and 10.  The winds have not been extreme at all, with fairly calm mornings.  All in all beautiful weather here.

It was interesting to me to see Mr. Odgen the first two days on the practice tee with a club cover between his left arm and side, hitting low punch shots, one after the other.

Looking forward to tomorrow's play.

Tom thanks for I was saying wow to minus 3 in a 20 plus north wind. Peter 31 days to kickoff and finally getting your kickers a new first game to think about.

Tiger,

How are you guys liking Les Miles so far?  I hope the honeymoon lasts for you.  He did beat Stoops 2/4 for us Cowboys so that was good.

Tiger,
Ouch. The last two minutes were like losing the last two holes with a one up lead. We open against 1-AA Portland State.

Tom,
I guess one is difficult partly because you're teeing in a wind sheltered area into a quartering wind. The green is no picnic either.
On 17 its hard to make yourself hit it far enough left with a crossing wind.

Peter My daughter and I had a laugh last night about the game. I was checking out her new appartment in Baton Rouge after a dinner for the new golf coach. I hope all is well with you. Craig I sent you a private email on Miles since I may have used up my football chat already.
