Ran's "Next Fifty"
« on: July 14, 2005, 03:07:53 PM »
I check this from time to time.  There are usually some courses I haven't heard of that are listed.  Sometimes I'm interested in the ones that fall off without being played.  I think that happened to White Bear and it may have happened to Kirtland and Franklin Hills.

What can anyone tell me about:

SEAWANE

GREYWALLS

CAPE ARUNDEL

NORTH SHORE

SCRANTON

My Next Five probably includes the two newest courses at Bandon, Sutton Bay, and Whitinsville.

Cape Arundel is near Kennebunkport, Maine.

I never would have known about it if not for this web site. Apparently Bush Sr. plays there quite a bit and I think either Couples or Faxon has the course record.

Here is Scott's AOTD for more information.

Seawane

Have not played  but the pictures look nothing like a true restoration.  Perhaps those that heard the well received presentation at ECCC could clarify.  Maybe an example where a little "artistic license" with the right mandate and architect was appropriate?

North Shore

Undergoing a really good restoration by Ron Forse.  Really neat course with some absolutely wild greens.  They do need to be a little more aggressive with a chain saw.

Behold my review of the Cape Arundel Golf Club, which was hailed as "great", "impressive", "awesome", "scintillating", "inviting", "great", "great", "great", "very well done" and "a real treat".
