Augusta CC is a good course. "Restored" recently by Ron Siva, to a mixed reception. Probably not one of Ross's top 20 courses, however. I'd love to hear other views.
The Ross course and a Raynor course were built in the early 20's on the site of 36 holes originally designed by some local golf enthusiasts. The Raynor 18 was NLE circa 1935.
While Augusta CC and ANGC have somewhat similar terrain, it is not the terrain that makes ANGC a great course. To the contrary, I think it is a great course despite its terrain. Mack and Jones did an incredible job incorporating some very severe hills into a world class design.
