Another enjoyable read, which is not surprising, as Mike was a joy to spend time with in New Mexico. I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading about someone pursuing his dream.

I'll have comments on the Carthage course tomorrow. :) I certainly didn't envision it when I read the profile years ago, but after reading the writeups on the Sheep Ranch, that it more of what I envisioned The Carthage Club like - less of a formal structure.

Of course, the easiest thing would be to scan the Lido drawings from Daniel Wexler's book and drop it in over the land. :)

Mike, what in the world has the Donald to do with Ran's dream?  It seems to me that the Carthage Club ideal has always been the anti-thesis of anything the Donald has been involved with.

Oh, do you mean the money and trappings of Trump branded wealth thing?  Well, Ran probably has plenty of that.  Why Ran's monogramed Carthage Club smoking jacket alone has more class than all the Donald's personalized stuff. ;) ;D

Loved your comments on Oakmont, it gave me something to think about. I love that.

I'm suprised to here you are working with Baxter and starting your own business. He obviously is encouraging you. Could you add more detail on that?

Great interview. Can't help but root for Mike Nuzzo's continued success in this competitive field - for it is enthusiasts like himself that make this field fertile!

About Bethpage Black - having played the course numerous times pre-US Open, and having noticed the flatness of the greens, I opined that the pros will eat Bethpage Black for lunch.

Nice job, Mike.

I enjoy reading all the backgrounds of people in this business. To know where Mike came from to what he is passionately doing now is cool stuff. All experience is good, IMO.

Mike, it was nice meeting you at the Michigan Room at the GCSAA Conference. I only wish we could have yakked for a few more hours!

T. MacWood - Yes the logo concept was my creation, although I did find that illustration on-line.  I've yet to hear Ran's reaction?  Its influence came from the Carthaginian wars.
I really love how the 18th at NGLA finishes along the clubhouse.  If Beaumont were a blank slate I would have tried something similar, unfortunately at some point in its early years yachting was prevalent, and they aligned the clubhouse to the river and made a mooring.  It would have been really special, kind of like what happened to Shore Acres, but with more water frontage.

Kelly – I had hoped for a comment on the 3200 yard tees, as you’re the last person I’ve read about to incorporate some, and the example I point to for “current trending”.

RJ – thanks – you’re the first person to call me nootz and I feel honored.

Adam – I tried to have a few holes follow the exposed tree line as they look fuller and I’d make sure the street and parking were not in view.  How can you go wrong finishing with two half pars [whatever par is]?

I have enjoyed my rounds and drinks as much as it appears y'all have.

George - some of those holes are pretty wide, but the Lido did cost a fair amount.  I'm looking forward to your comments.

Lou - Ran and I would like to see you putt off a few of those greens, and fortunately there are no trees on the interior of the property.  I will make sure any caddy gives you at least one wrong yardage a trip, just to mess with you a bit.   ;D

Ian - What is wrong with working for someone and starting your own business - just the other day Tom Doak said "you're nobody in the golf business until you have multiple conflicts of interest".  Actually, I've never been an employee of the firm, more like a contractor.

Tiger - hopefully soon Baxter and I will host a local contingent at Beaumont, and yes you're still invited.

Now that makes sense.

Many architects start by "taking" a client, and that is why many firms would never be comfortable with an employee also having their own business in the same industry.

I also loved the logo, very smart design.

There was one gator in the drainage line one day, everyone wound up safe.  No pictures though.  Although that is also the day that Lou likes to talk about seeing the most squarely hit golf ball ever pulled that far left...

Thank you, I'm really looking forward to reading Vol. III.

It was great catching up at Hidden Creek with those that are now old friends, and meeting many others ... a few did admit to not reading my interview yet however...  :P

The internet isn't perfect as there are a lot more questions asked in person than this thread would indicate.
