Hasn't the Dunhill Cup at St Andrews played a 3 hole tournament with hickories on the day before the pro-am starts? I recall seeing Vijay, Els and a few others doing it last year.
I agree with Kirk, and believe that if the pros used hickories for about 2 days, they'd hit some amazing shots...
But in fairness, if you actually go to a tournament today, you have plenty of chances to see pros do incredible things with today's equipment. Things that don't come across that well on TV. Phil's low cutter 9iron from 125 between two trees to make birdie at Poppy Hills #13 as an example... Electric, really.
