Just before noon today (Monday) at a local Adelaide Golf Club (not my club), a 48 year-old lady golfer died from injuries caused by a falling tree branch.  Not aware of any other details at this stage.  The trees in the area are generally local eucalypt gums.  We have had limited rain since January, and its probably been fairly dry really since the middle of winter.
More details will become apparent in the near future.  

I'm sure this happens around the world, but its the first case that I'm aware of.

I almost got it at Olympic recently...I was on the first green when I heard what sounded like thunder, which I knew was odd since that is a rare occurrence out thataway...I looked back down the fairway and saw a big tree had fallen down on the left side of the fairway. ..I was either close to or at that spot just a few minutes earlier, as my nomal draw/hook off the tee had put me there

Very nearly happened to me once.  Playing on my own, hear a crack and this bloody great tree falls about 5 yards in front of me.

NEWTON, N.C. - "Tree Falls on Golf Cart, Kills Fayetteville Man"

A 59 year old man died when a tree fell on his golf cart Thursday at the Catawba County Club in Newton, North Carolina. Workers had to saw the tree off the cart to get to the golfers.

Though I do not know the facts involved in this particular situation, it should serve as reminder and put us all on notice to remove trees and branches posing imminent and/or forseeable safety hazards. This is simply another reason that tree evaluation and tree care is important.

This too happened at Preston Trail during the Nelson, and as I recall, somebody was killed.  I was there the following day and witnessed two or three large oak branches split-off.  The area had experienced a lot of rain and some heavy wind.  An act of God which could not have been anticipated.

Lou,I was there that day.My recollection is it was on the left side of number 4,the par 3.Not bad weather,it just happened.Probably mid 1970's?

Many moons ago, at the age of around 13, my Dad and I were playing.  We both walked at the time using pull carts.

On the 13th hole of this particular course we neared the green and were getting ready to leave our pull carts when there was a large "CRACK."  We looked up to see the top of a the tree above us snap off.  We broke out in a full sprint across the green as branches and twigs scattered all around us.  The tree top landed between our golf bags and broke the wheel on my Dad's pull cart.  It was one of those "wrong place at the wrong time" scenarios.  Neither of us were hurt but it was unnerving.

When we finished our round, we informed the staff of what happened not to complain, but so they could go clean up the mess.
