UK Maps at Google
« on: April 20, 2005, 12:29:16 PM »
http://maps.google.co.uk/

In case you've got a summer trip to the UK planned - Google now has maps and driving directions.

As an UK-o-phile, I gotta say (in Beavis and Butt-head style):
"Heh heh, hehe.  This is Pretty Cool..."

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=john+o'+groats&daddr=Lands+End+Road,+St.+Buryan,+Penwith,+Cornwall,+TR19&hl=en

I really like how it can't find the start point if you don't put the apostrophe after "o" in John O' Groats....  :)
No aerials or satellite photos yet, but it's coming...

BTW, for that trip in the URL, it estimates 16 hrs, 34 mins.  Now, that is funny!

BTW, senor Goodale, it's "sprechen", unless you are making some kind of German pun... which would seem unlikely, since it's German, after all...

Congratulations, Herr Krystynak!

For solving the weekly conundrum, you win our top prize of entry into the  Burghfield Open golf tournament at Royal Dornoch on 30 April 2005!

PS--you'd better play better than last year or this prize will be rescinded!

PPS--even the esteemed Ludwig W. scholar and Harvard graduate B. Crosby didn't catch that tyop.  Score one for the Banana Slugs......

So, who are the Banana Slugs?

UCSB = Gauchos
UCSC = Banana Slugs

UCSC is a leftist enclave of pot-growing hippies who don't bother to hand out grades.

UCSB is basically an apolitical collection of VW Cabriolet-driving babes from the southland.

So you can see why one might take offense...

As one who went to UCSD, it has Torrey Pines and we all know that since it has gotten a US Open, it MUST be better than any other course near a UC campus (and I include Riviera as near UCLA.)  ::)

You may already know this or it may have already been mentioned in another thread, but if you go to http://www.maps.google.com and click on the "satellite" link that you see in the upper right, you can see high resolution satellite photos of almost any place in the u.s. The satellite option doesn't appear to be available for the UK site. It's great to look at the high-res satellite photos of the monterey peninsula, or Merion, or Pine Valley or Shinnecock/National.......

Some areas of the country do not have high-res imagery, but most of the great american courses can be seen from above.

(Go Hoosiers!)

I don't do umlauts, although I LOVE to pronounce them. :)

Go Hoosiers too (assuming that Stanford has already been eliminated....)!

Rich -

I admit umlauts can be a pain to type.  And I'd back Stanford against any of the other Cal schools, especially U$C.
