Old MacDonald at sunset
« on: November 08, 2008, 12:00:20 PM »
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of joining Jim Urbina, Ken Nice and CJ for the 10 hole loop at Old MacDonald. In hindsight, I believe I was expecting a replica course, which OM is not. While the ingredients are there, the Short, Road, Biarritz, etc., it was wonderful to see that Tom, Jim and Co. made it there own. Lastly, having heard reports of its severity, its playability was surprising.

Here are a few photos from our sunset round.

Wow,
That is a great picture of Jim golfing!

From the pictures it looks like another home run from a group of very talented folks!
I hope to get back to Oregon to see this course.

Whoa Nellie.

Looks like Bandon trips will now be a minimum of 8 rounds.

OM looks more like a true natural links than the other 3 at bandon.

Goosebumps - it looks like this course is going to be epic.

I still can't get over the size of the greens. Although they flow very naturally with the movement of the land and certainly do not look out of place.

I would agree with Pat that OM appears to be the most "authentic" links at Bandon.

The craggy bunkering has a throw back aesthetic that does not look contrived and the blowouts are awe (fear) inspiring.

Thanks for the pics Ben - very jealous you have been out there (with nice weather to boot)

These pictures look beautiful.  I can't wait to see more of it.  Great job guys.

I suggest this pic for the cover of either Dream Golf II or a new book by the boys of the Bandon charrette aka The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Print it, fold it over the binding, voila.

I'm pretty certain I know where they could pre-sell the first 1500 copies or so.

Old Macdonald looks fantastic.  What a place.

Wasn't TD going to play it last Wed. for the first time?  I bet he's still smiling.

Wow, looks fabulous!

Is there not a road behind the road hole? I recall TD saying they were not sure what they were going to do back there, but this picture looks like it's all grass back there. Looks plenty challenging and fun regardless.

I have no idea and I really don't care who contributed what. George Bahto is simply living the dream.

Thanks, Ben -

That a place so inherently lovely and natural can serve as a field of play for a sport made by man....

It feels like it goes back a long time, even to before the great holes that inspired The Man

I know where I'm going again!  WOW!

I just hope Old MacDonald doesn't open the same time as Cabot Links.  I think they're 4000 miles apart.

Congratulations to everybody involved.  History is unfolding right in front of us.

Ben
The pictures look awesome.
I'm not seeing the C.B. Mac Donald bunkering I thought I'd see, nor the obvious manufactured look prevalent at NGLA, Piping, Chicago, or Yale.
Let me know what I'm missing, or if I was simply misinformed.
