The practice area at Cape Kidnappers is right out the door of the clubhouse -- tee to the right of the 18th green, hitting parallel to the tenth hole down toward the bay.  It's really squeezed in there, and the length of the range restricts the length of the 12th hole because the back tee is right at the far end.  (Basically, the client insisted on a proximate range, and it's on ground we weren't going to use for a golf hole; it's just very tight.)

I did not look at the new practice facility at Paraparaumu closely -- only from the distance of #3 tee -- but it did look tight.

A good range should give one on the range tee the same feel as one will encounter on the golf course.
