I apologize if this is redundant from a post that I missed.  There were 2 articles in Newsday about Bayberry.

Here is a quick synopsis of the article 2/14/4

Southampton Town Board approved the special zoning a developer needs to build a 100 acre world class organic golf course in Shinnecock Hills

Century old Bayberryland Mansion a historic relic will be demolished because developer Michael Pascucci said it was too expensive to rehabilitate and convert into a club house.

Town is getting public beach and wetlands preserve.  In return the developer will not build 65 houses on the 298 acre site.

All board members voted for the proposal which now goes to the town planning board.  This could take 3-4 months.

Course could take 18months- two years to build

Owner Pascucci owns WLNY TV 55.

The special planned development district approved yesterday allows him to build the golf course, 35,000 sq ft clubhouse, 15 golf cottages without kitchens for members to use for overnight stays, 7,500 square foot owners residence and some minor buildings for golf related uses.

The golf course will cover about 100 acres.  Another 65 acres will be set aside for wetlands and wildlife habitat, 175,000 Sq ft of existing nonconforming buildings including the 28,000 sq ft Manson will be torn down.

54 acres around Cold Spring Pond will be donated to the town for wetlands and park use and $500,000 will be donated to the town’s park site.

I have two articles from Newsday if anyone wants me to fax them to you.  Let me know at Donjii@yahoo.com

My understanding is that they want to take down the existing main house for course routing purposes.

I think its Sebonac Neck Golf Club.  Not 100% sure of that.

Here is an article about it:

Something tells me one of these days there'll be a very very different look to the right of the first few holes of NGLA. NGLA has now basically removed all the trees on the interior of the course and it appears there'll be a goodly amount going too (Bayberry) on the right of some of the front nine of NGLA. For those that don't like trees and golf----some serious "High Cotton" times should be on the horizon!   ;)

Isn't 100 acres a bit cramped for a golf course??? I'd like to know from Mr Doak what he considers to be the number of acres needed for the average golf course of good quality? I always felt that the Town of Osyter Bay course on Long Island was only about 100 acres & that is far too cramped IMO. johnny

Yes, I'm pretty sure that will be the official name.

The property is about 300 acres. I'm guessing it is 100 acres of fairways etc.
