Watch the Honda this Week
« on: March 10, 2004, 01:45:28 PM »
Tough course with lots of options and very challenging green complexes should make for some interesting viewing.

The cool blustery weather has the greens firm and the pros complaining about the difficult conditions.

Touring Pros are generally a bunch of sissies.

With all of the college hoop tournaments this weekend and no Tiger, the over/under on the number of people watching is three.

This is a new course?

Silly me. I thought a golf course discussion site might have some golf fans.

Yes, it opened for play last November. The course is in excellent playing condition. Very firm and fast.

So I guess you're taking the over. :)

Tell us more about the course besides firm and fast. What's the length, which holes will give the pros problems, most exciting tournament holes, hazards, who built the course, etc.

I'll be watching, if the schedule of my daughter's state-championship basketball tournament (the only basketball tournament that really matters) allows.

In the meantime, you might look at www.pgatour.com/tournaments/r010/course

Good luck to your daughter's basketball team.

I did go to the attached link and interesting that at the top of the page it states that this is the first Tom Fazio course to host a PGA Tour event. Are the WGC events not PGA tour events? The WGC Championship held last fall at Capital City Club's Crabapple Course was a Fazio project.

The link below also has a little bit about the course.

They are using the 18th hole of the Arthur Hills course as the finishing hole.

Why?

The 18th at the Hills course sets up best for the array of skyboxes and bleachers for the gallery on the finishing hole.

Fazio did do a small redesign of 18 on the Hills but the hole has the least severe green of the 18 holes of the tournament.

Still a difficult hole, especially with a back hole placement. 475 yards but will probably play with a helping wind this week.

Take a look at the course with comments by Brett Quigley:
