I saw it in 2017. Very good work by Craig Haltom. The club was part of an enormous class action against DuPont over the herbicide Imprelis, which was found to kill trees. Craig used the settlement and the lack of trees to completely alter the course. I liked it a lot.

Is it built on sand like nearby Sand Valley?

If it's not then Craig imported one hell of a lot of sand!

Never played the course, but in my day in the Midwest, the Steven's Point beer was a cult classic.

"When You're Out of Point, You're Out of Town" was one of their ad slogans. A fraternity brother of mine had an older brother who lived in Scandanavia, WI, next town over. We'd go up and visit him on the farm, and drive back with a trunk full of Point Beer. The cases came in high quality boxes which made for excellent furniture (legs for desks, etc.). Played with the pros from SPCC in one of Dan Moore's Lanford Shield events at Lawsonia, and they had us out a couple of times prior to Haltom's work. Nice parkland track.

This sounds like it will be fun, rarely is a qualifier on an architecturally solid course.

I'm a big fan of Stevens Point CC.  Super under-rated course and my favorite one in Steven's Point (sorry Sentry World).  The changes they've made have turned it from a forest to what you see in the pics below (ones I took last fall).  I don't like the 8th hole but aside from that it's a really cool/fun spot.

So how was it? Did you play at Sand Valley or Lawsonia Links?

I just got back from a Memorial Day weekend trip to Lawsonia Links, Sand Valley and Club at Lac La Belle. (more to come)

Played Stevens Point twice and I really enjoyed it. The second day they had us play all the way back which is a bit too long for me but it was extremely fair. The course played firm and fast and the greens made you pucker a bit. Chatted up a guy at lunch, turns out it was Tom Lehman’s brother …

Lawsonia was all it was described and more. Rolling, open and bold it was exciting and fun. The only negative was that play was slow and I left after the 14th hole so I wouldn’t have missed my flight. Sit in the Madison airport for an hour before they announce that the flight is delayed 3 hours….thanks American!

Stopped by Sand Valley on the way up to SP and was mildly depressed I couldn’t play but I sat near the 18th green with a beer and watched….it looked super fun !

I will be back next summer God willing and play Sand Valley and Lawsonia.
