Tree Management - Before & After Photos
« on: September 25, 2012, 10:48:11 AM »
I did a search through the archives, but couldn't find a good thread with a significant amount of (working) before and after examples of Tree Management. If anyone has really good examples it would be a big help if you posted them here.

For an example of what I'm hopeful for:

Before:

After:

The 7th at Flossmoor
Before:

After:

If there is interest, as I find more I can post onto this thread. Thanks.

Pat:
I recall someone posting pre-renovation pics of Cal Club, which were in marked contrast to the post-renovation pics in Ran's review and in other posts.

Will I get excommunicated if I admit that I like the "before" picture of the 7th at Flossmoor better?

(The other set in Pat's original post, though, shows a truly amazing improvement.)

Greg Ohlendorf's "My Opinion" feature on Flossmoor has a nice set of before-after photos of the course's tree management. Most dramatic is the work done on #7, #11, #12, #13, #16 and the new connected fairway between #17 and #18.

Here is a fantastic video put together by our own Dunlop White which illustrates the tree management program at his club over the past ten years: http://vimeo.com/48347100

Is this Sleepy Hollow? Believe there was a similar shot on a recent thread of a hole at Hudson National that backs up to the river.

That is Sleepy Hollow #5.  We now need the "after-after" shot  ;D

I guess add me to the excommunicated list. I liked the willow (or whatever it is) on the right. The removal of the trees on the left, the removal of the dead cattails, and the reduction of the lip of the bunker were great improvements.

Mike,

That's a phenomenal example. Thanks. I'd love to see more examples at West Bend if you have them.

Pat -

Some fairly significant tree removal has occurred at Kingsley -- most notable along the ridge that divides the 10th and 18th holes, behind the 11th green, and along the left-hand side of the fairway and all around the green of 17.

I have included links to Tim Bert's epic thread below.  You'll see most of the "after" pics in Tim's posts and commentary, which come first, and the "before" pics in follow-on posts from George Freeman from the club's web gallery.  Because of how the thread evolved, the chronology of posts will be a bit screwy for your purposes, but it should be easy enough to sort through.

Best, Andrew

Here is an old thread with some before/after pictures of Carolina Golf Club... http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,37123.0.html

I didn't include these in the thread, but this is a before picture of our 3rd hole viewed from the tee and looking at the green...

And this is what it looks like after our restoration...

The "before" look I saw numerous times during high school golf at West Meck.
The "after" is amazing.

Here's some photos of a project we're working on Tavistock (NJ).  I think you'll need to use the slider bar to see the whole effect.  Am curious to opinions.

Springdale, the lovely downhill par 3 fifth.

Before (Taken from Joe Bausch's photos in a prior thread):

After:

The now-incongruous old halfway shack has since been removed. Also, from the previous thread, Mike Malone will be happy to hear that the pines on the 18th hole are now gone.
