Aerial of the Day #316 (and 317) - 4 Apr 2003
« on: April 04, 2003, 05:59:21 AM »
The first one today is one not too many people get to play,
but is supposedly good.  I've heard overrated and not
overrated.  Typical, I guess.  Is this understated for this
archie?

As for the stumper, I hear this one is going through some
work to "improve itself in the ratings".  Of course, they're not
even on any ratings, but that's another subject.   ::)

I guess that extended lagoon in #1 really meant something
to the developers.

This place is next door to one of Michael Jordan's clubs that
helped put him over "the 14 club limit".

An atypical finish for this archie.

For #2, part of the "improvements" are to lengthen it for
some of the long-hitting members who prowl around here.

This place is quite close to two other places run by titans of
their industry.

There are some impressive homes down there, too.

I will be ducking out in a minute to join a GCAer on the links,
so I asked two others to help co-host, but haven't heard back
from them yet.  Otherwise, I'll be back later in the afternoon.

You really need to hit it "quite a ways" oven the "inlet" on that hole at the top of the airial.

Either my messages didn't get through or ......

Anyways, #1 is Long Cove, in Hilton Head island, SC,
designed by Pete Dye.  It was one of Doak's first projects as
an apprentice.

clues included:

"extended lagoon" = "long cove"

"This place is next door to one of Michael Jordan's clubs..." = Wexford Plantation.

An atypical finish for this archie.  = not the frequent Dye 5-3-4 finish.

#2 is Isleworth, in Windermere, FL, designed by
Palmer/Seay.  Isleworth is the home course of Tiger Woods,
Mark O'Meara, Ken Griffey, Jr., Shaq, Wesley Snipes, etc.

Supposedly they don't like their ranking status (none) and
want to improve on that by lengthening, etc.

other clues include:

"some of the long-hitting members who prowl around here."  = Tiger prowls

This place is quite close to two other places run by titans of
their industry.  = Disney World (The mouse) and Bay Hill
(Arnie)

Looking at the Isleworth aerial, I think the 15th and 16 or 6 and 7th
(can't tell which nine they are on) look very interesting.  They are the two holes in the top right of
the pic that run in a SW direction along the homes on 6 and lake on 7.  I'd swear 7 looks Coore and Crenshaw like
in the crossing bunker mid fairway in the second LZ and the bunker at green front of a boomer shaped green.

Anyone know which house belongs to whom? 8)
