I was delighted that none of this year's BUDA participants were critical of the renovations at Elie.  The work done there by Robin Hiseman's colleague Ross McMurray was, in my layman's opinion, excellent.  So excellent, in fact, that last Summer I found myself in discussions with other members trying to work out exactly which bunkers had moved.  Elie wasn't broken but did need to make today's young, long players think a bit more.  I think Ross managed that without changing the feel of the course at all.  And that, for me, is success.
It is great to hear of good examples (I had seen some of the new bunkers on-line), shows that with care and respect it can be done. Elie is a special place.

Must get back there soon as I couldn't make BUDA (sadly) nor this year, life gets in the way of Golf sometimes

I just have a second, but I think some here are taking the word “broken” too literally. Think of it as “opportunity for improvement”.  I believe there are very few on this site that can say there are NO courses out there that couldn’t benefit from some kind of improvement.  If you do think that way, well good for you but I disagree.

I still recall years ago when my close friend  :)    Tom Doak and I toured Lehigh CC together. I still remember his few but spot on comments about the golf course.  And those comments I embraced because he was right, there were things he saw that we implemented and it helped improve our golf course.  Was it “broken”?  Maybe not in a literal sense but it wasn’t perfect either. This is just one example of what I am talking about.

Back to “improving” or at least trying to improve this golf course I am working on 😉
