Augusta Municipal (The Patch) Course Past-Renovation Question
« on: December 31, 2024, 04:03:06 PM »
Today, December 31st is the last day Augusta Municipal Golf Course, aka "The Patch" is open before closing for a year for a major ANGC-funded renovation by Tom Fazio and Beau Welling.

Last week I played there even though 9 holes were officially closed due to tree damage from the recent Hurricane, and I still "sort of played" about 14 of them and walked the others as very few folks were out there on a cold, damp day.

My question isn't about the future re-do, however.  Back around 1999 it seems the city put some funding for a new clubhouse, parking lots, and other amenities that impacted the golf course, and a number of holes were changed, including the 18th.   Does anyone know if any architects were involved in that effort?   Thanks in advance for any information.

I cannot answer your question, but I did play the course in November of 2023. Had a nice walk on a chilly morning with the course pretty much all to myself.

I am glad that ANGC is stepping up to help the place out. It was really worn out. I'll be moving to Aiken shortly after they are finished with the renovation. A few Augusta locals at my hotel mentioned to me while I was looking for property in Aiken last month that they were not thrilled about the course being re-worked. Not sure why, it's well past needed!
Favorites Played in 2024:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI), AIken GC (SC), Fort Mill GC (SC)

Richard,

Yes, it needs it but expect that long time locals and regulars are concerned about acceleration of prices as well as availability of tee times post-upgrade.

That's always the rub with any municipal restoration but hopefully they'll create a tiered pricing structure that rewards those local folks for their long-time patronage.

The improvements are completed in 1999"
