Might make a long weekend in the south in the spring. Looking at New Orleans or Biloxi area. Any suggestions public or private ?

I've visited the Biloxi area twice, but not since 2018. There are some good public options. They were reasonably priced when i played them, but can't speak to current green fees. Fallen Oak  is the most well known, but it was the worst value-wise. Here are links to photos of  a few of the ones I liked.

Audubon GC in the city there was a Confidential Guide Gourmet Choice in Volume 2. It's public. I'd play there then spend the rest of your time wandering around the city. The WWII museum is terrific.

Not to be a smartarse, but going to New Orleans to play golf would be like going to Bandon and searching out backsplash for your kitchen.

That said, if you must, there’s Audubon and Metairie Country Club.

Just wanted to weigh in and say that yes, it is possible to play decent golf at a new course each day of the week yet still eat, drink, and otherwise cavort to excess in New Orleans.  Most of the usual suspects have been mentioned but don't neglect the fair to middling public course scene for more of the local character of that uniquely wonderful city.

You may just have to de-prioritize sleep.

I always de-prioritize sleep when in New Orleans even though I never have played golf on our numerous trips. And although there are several very good 24 hour places to eat, don’t forget Brothers for fried chicken.

It's the greatest place on earth, if not exactly the greatest place on earth for golf.

I was very happy to have played Metairie on my first visit though. It's about the worst property for golf I've ever seen - completely flat, in a flood plain, and set on a parcel that's shaped like a capital letter L. And I think that makes it a really cool lesson in golf course architecture, because the Raynor templates (as executed by Joe Bartholomew) show in a pretty unadulterated and unadorned form.

When you play a course like Old MacDonald, you get to see template holes at their sexiest, in an awesome setting that lends a whole new character to their fundamental appeal. And that's super cool. But as a student of architecture, seeing the templates in a completely unremarkable setting helps shine a brighter light on that fundamental appeal. It's worth checking out, assuming you can arrange access.

Some of y'all have never been called out in bold green font and it really shows.
