Favorite beach and golf destination?
« on: October 30, 2024, 09:06:25 PM »
What is your favorite place to visit that has a beach and golf?  I grew up in Louisiana and would visit Destin, FL every year.  Great beaches, but the golf was terrible.  I do not consider Pebble Beach nor Bandon Dunes a beach destination.

I just got back from the Bahamas and enjoyed the combination of golf and beach at The Abaco Club.

What are some other destinations that have good golf and beaches? Are there any in the US?

Outside the US, and not to far: Bermuda, Dominion Republic, Cabo...

Hilton Head Island comes to mind.

The beaches and the golf courses in and around Punta Cana are a lot of fun. Corales, Punta Espada, and La Cana are all quite close to one another and to the airport.

I know it’s far from the US, but I’m going to mention Falsterbo, Sweden. Wonderful beaches and an excellent golf course.

Casa de Campo, although beach is only fair. Also, this year Teeth of the Dog closes 1/20 for major renovation.

If not considering only resort or public access then strong consideration needs to be given to Southampton, NY, USA.

Coopers Beach has been selected by “Mr Beach” on numerous occasions as the #1 beach in the USA and the four terrific/great golf courses need no further explanation.

Gotta be new Zealand and figure Te Arai will be at the tops.  Didn't play the course when we were in New Zealand but did visit a number of beaches (prefer remote beaches to those filled with high rises and people).

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

On pure vibes, Abaco is really tough to beat. Love the golf course and the beach (and I'm not really a beach guy). But this thread can't continue without a plug for Myrtle Beach and especially my beloved Pawleys Island.

Cabot Cape Breton has great golf and a decent beach. The water can be chilly, however.

Another vote for Hilton Head Island - simply a wonderful beachfront and the requisite warm temperatures to enjoy it.

Another vote for Maui here. Waiehu Municipal punches way above it's weight, and is a fantastic value for anyone traveling on a budget. Waihe'e Beach isn't amazing, but it's nice enough if you're already there. I haven't played Maui CC, but it's right on Paia Beach, which is fantastic.

Near the top of any list should be Eastward Ho and the Cape Cod National Seashore. And I would place Maidstone as an equal.
And Mid Ocean Club, Sankaty Head, Prout's Neck, Newport, Misquamicut, etc.

Also, Humewood and New South Wales.

I hate lying on a beach.  Beaches are for walking on, preferably with a dog or two.

Assuming access not an issue, Santa Monica beach with plenty of great golf close by

And most of the year temps will accommodate actually getting in the water
