The annual Oxford-Cambridge golf match, the oldest event in college (and some would say team) golf of all, dating back to 1878, is to return next March to RND Westward Ho!, for the first time since 1938 (when former politician Willie Whitelaw was amongst the participants). The venue is the choice each year of one of the team captains, and in recent years the Blues match has been held as far afield as Dornoch, which can be a bit of a spectating challenge. Cambridge, incidentally, will have for the first time ever a female captain.
RND is the course that Ran maintains has the greatest variety of hazard of them all. And for Bernard Darwin (Cambridge) 'there was no finer battlefield, nor more enjoyable one for those who go there'. Nor is there. This , for a small but discerning public, is good news.
