Additions to "Pines" (MP, PN, & SP) portfolio -- fact or fiction?

Regarding the "good bed" comment.
When we stayed at the MP Hotel there were only two rooms occupied on our floor.  High season.  The room we had was "rustic."  The bed we slept in may have been the exact bed my parents slept in during the 1960s.  I'm not sure if the sheets were original as well.  The dining room for a romantic dinner with your wife and another couple was "lacking."

A guys trip for 36 holes a day, eating bar food and patio drinking probably works, but don't bring your wives.

I must be lucky; my wife, who is both brilliant and beautiful, likes bar food and patio drinking.  She doesn’t play golf, so she doesn’t go on golf trips with me, but I wouldn’t hesitate a second about the accommodations at MP/PN.  She’d find them quaint and charming and historic, just like I do.

I can “top” you in only one regard: my wife loves golf (probably more than I do). We have been fortunate to travel to some terrific golf locations, but none is as special as MP/PN. We have spent countless hours of enjoyment overlooking MP 18 and chatting at the sunken bar at PN. We are not native North Carolinians nor UNC people, but the patio at MP embodies “If G-d is not a Tar Heel, then why did He make the sky Carolina Blue?” It is just a place that feels as if all is right.


Btw, the food at the grill at SP is pretty darn good as is the view over 18 from that little porch—I hope that they keep it if they redo the clubhouse.

I've never stayed at the MP/PN accommodations.
Likewise, I've never played with any guest that did NOT opine either option is "dated."
Charm has its limits.
I assume the lodging plan at SP is still extant. Maybe that'll be the petri dish for the sister courses.

In thinking about the diversion into lodging, it struck me that having stayed a couple of times at the Pinehurst Resort that I prefer MP/PN. Pinehurst is pretty generic and quite expensive for the quality. Now my wife has stayed at the Pinecrest (which I have not) and thought the restaurant and bar quite good although she prefers MP/PN.


In terms of golf, PH2 is sublime. I have not played 10 yet. But MP/PN/SP are far better than PH 4, 6, and 8.

I liked 4, but I don't think it's as good as Mid Pines or Southern Pines. I've never played Pine Needles.


Regardless, there are very few places in the country that have a better public trio than MP/PN/SP.

My wife stayed there at my suggestion for a tennis camp at PH. She enjoyed it thoroughly, particularly the bar scene. One day I will get there.

Mid Pines / Pine Needles is a cool place, and I know a lot of people here love it.  But Pinehurst #10 has changed the equation.  2 + 10 are better than Mid Pines and Pine Needles, so your math in the above is wrong.

The sense that I get from both properties on maps software, is that they could be rebuilt/redesigned without tons of trouble. There are corridors, to be sure, but losing two Ellis Maples courses and two Gene Hamm courses might not be horrific. I might get skewered for that, but 1.5 pages of comments in, and no one has mentioned this point.

Just bumping this along… apparently Pinewild CC was just sold for $20 million to an investment group and the Triangle Business Journal today wrote that Kelly Miller is eyeing both Whispering Pines and Foxfire.  Any local sources?

I think the Pinewild sale was in late 2023.

Word on the street is that Pine Needles group after due diligence period decided not to go forward.
