I stopped and played Ferry Point Links on my way out of New York since I was too sick to sleep in my car for a round or two at Bethpage. I hated this golf course, but it certainly photographs well.
One of the guys in my group was a Troon Golf Portfolio Manager and he told me that within 3-5 years Ferry Point Links will be bulldozed and will become a Bally's casino, with parking and hotels. He said the course is very profitable, but not "casino" profitable.

Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

Aren’t there better locations for a casino?

I get the sense that you're basically saying "Aren't there better locations to print money?" People seem to be willing to put up a casino anywhere someone will let them.

Actually, I just hate casinos and would prefer the site remain a golf course even if I never play it.

Tim-You have 8.5 million people in the 5 boroughs of NYC alone not to mention Long Island, Fairfield County CT, Essex County, NJ and Bergen County, NJ. I would think a casino would be a home run for the operator. Your reply might be tongue in cheek but I’m not sure.

There are ways to underperform with the casino business and the MGM Casino in Springfield, Massachusetts is a good example. They started with over 3000 employees in 2018 and now have less than 1500.

Doesn’t the NY METS billionaire owner Stevie Cohen want to build a casino near the ballpark, which is pretty close to Ferry Point?

It's been proven that a horrible businessman can bankrupt multiple casinos, even in a resort town at the shore will gazillions of people within easy travel and driving distance.

Tough to imagine with those odds but there you have it.

Tim,

I grew up not far from Ferry Point and drove over the nearby Whitestone Bridge many times headed to LaGuardia or the Flushing Y on Northern Boulevard.

I hate casinos and the idea of converting a golf property to one. But, maybe there is land available where the World’s Fair was or maybe even over in Brooklyn.

Tim-As Michael Morandi posted Steve Cohen is close to getting an $8 billion project approved for a casino in the shadow of Citi Field. There are issues with zoning restrictions that need to be changed in his favor.

I thought the plan was keep the course, add a casino/resort.  Seems like a steep hill to climb, but who knows.  It's been a long road to get to where it is today.

Peter,

You are correct. Ferry Point golf course and land is own by NYC, so any proposal would require city and state approval.  Bally proposed building a 3.1 million-sq-ft casino-hotel adjacent to the golf course.  There is a public hearing on the proposal, environmental study, etc. 1

Steve Cohen has been trying to get a casino built in Queens, at Citi Field, for years. Bally will likely have a lot of opposition from local residents, especially since the site is on public land. Moreover, Bally's lease to run Ferry Point expires in 2035. Any casino would require a renegotiation of terms of the existing lease - Bally took over Trump's lease.2

It would be hard to believe local & state politicians would allow 2 casinos within a short distance of each other - 6.5 miles.

I'm not sure how one could "hate" Ferry Point.  It is an excellent golf course.  It has super wide driving corridors, is typically in fantastic shape, a really good variety of holes, interesting greens, open entrances to the greens and a very unique urban golf setting.  Hate is a strong word.  And when someone tells me they hate something, often times they might be the denominator.  I'm not saying that is the case with you Richard, but why do you hate Ferry Point?

Cheers,

Shane
