Darley, Belleisle in Ayrshire to be redesigned
« on: May 23, 2024, 02:05:13 AM »

Plans to enhance the playing experience at Darley and Belleisle golf courses in South Ayrshire, Scotland, have taken a step forward: Pangaea Golf Architecture co-founders and directors Stuart Rennie and Jeff Danner are leading the two-course project in collaboration with Open winner Paul Lawrie.

I'm slightly conflicted with this one. I met and played a round of golf last year with Stuart Rennie as he hosted myself and another GCA'er at Dornoch. Really good company and mad keen on golf course architecture. I wish him well. At the same time I have a great fondness for the Darley which is one of those courses that is a bit of an adventure. I hope they don't tweak it to make it more conventional.

I'll be curious to see what they do to Belleisle.  I played there about 20 years ago to have the experience of an historic parkland pubic course (tucked into our links play) and for what it was, it seemed just fine to me.

AMBITIOUS plans to revamp one of Scotland's top-rated public golf courses have been revealed.

Belleisle golf course in Ayrshire, which is owned and operated by South Ayrshire Council, has regularly been labelled as one of the finest municipal courses anywhere in Britain.

Golf South Ayrshire, who manage the parkland facility on behalf of the local authority, have joined forces with Pangaea Golf Architecture and welcomed input from former top Scottish golfer Paul Lawrie, winner of The Open in 1999.

After making minor changes to the course in recent years, it is now set for a major transformation - but local opinion is split.

I used to play regularly in a corporate day at Belleisle.  For a municipal parkland course I thought it was very good.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
