You might find this quote of interest from page 141 of George C. Thomas, Jr.s "Mini-Golf Architecture In America:

Ian, your GCGC restoration - pond reversion back to sand pit, and tribute 17th SHGC is priceless.  Mr Koonce, by zoning and permitting standards, you are supposed to actually bury the dead elephants! ;)
