Once upon a time (today), after many years of having two cars, we’ve both finally retired and decided we could at least try to make do with one car. So, two older cars sold and a new one purchased.
This had one major knock-on effect for me. After decades of keeping my golf gear in the boot (trunk) of my car - shameless, I know - I can no longer do so, so decided to give the locker room at the club a bit more of my attention. A quick call and a visit to the club and I was given the keys to three different lockers to try.
The first one was in a bit of a dark corner meaning I couldn’t see the lock properly and oddly was too short to accommodate the full majesty of my 10.5 degree Titleist TS driver. (This has been an unpaid commercial). That simply wouldn’t do.
The second one was taller but was in an area of the locker room usually frequented by our younger, trendier set so clearly I would feel a bit uncomfortable there - especially if exposing my somewhat matronly midriff. Plus, it was painted a horrendous shade of diaper green.
The third one was just right! Seemingly of extra height suitable for the TS, (still unpaid) in a well-lit area of the locker room, handy for the bench seats for ease of donning and, ehm, un-donning of the golf shoes for the gentleman of the more arthritic rather than athletic type.
I’ll take it! I paid the going annual rental rate (25 of our Great British Pounds) and went back to the car to bring in the rest of my golfing ‘trunk treasure’ which has been contained in a large plastic box there for about the last twenty years.
It was quite an emotional moment. Going through the detritus of decades of just throwing stuff in there. I gave away THREE pairs of golf shoes, binned about twenty useless balls, filed away some scorecards and stroke savers. Quite interesting. You should try it.
So, that was my day. Did I miss anything happening in golf? I sure hope not.
Love,
F.
