OT: Photography at US Open on practice days
« on: May 02, 2022, 11:50:21 AM »
Has anybody brought a big camera and lens to a US Open practice day?

I want to bring a big camera and a couple of big lenses to a practice day at this year's Open.  I really don't want to be turned away at the gate, as I would have no place to store the gear if it is not allowed in.

Here are the USGA restrictions:  https://www.usga.org/championships/2020/prohibited-items-at-usga-championships.html

Quote
No Cameras (point and shoot, film, or DSLR) or Video Cameras (other than Monday through Wednesday for personal use only)
Generally when it says "DSLR", it means "big camera and big lens".

Has anyone done this?  Or seen it at a recent championship?

Thanks.

As it says "other than Monday through Wednesday" you should be fine. I doubt it a 600mm telephoto would be allowed, but your basic zoom 250mm, which I've used at Augusta as a fan on Wednesday, should be all right. Tip: for landscapes take a shorter lens.
