OT: Golfers of the United States, REJOICE!

Looking very much like we will be moving permanently to Daylight Savings Time...

Should pass the House, and I believe Biden has signaled that he will sign...

Friends of mine that have SAD (season affective disorder) tell me that moving to permanent daylight savings time will help them. Yet there is this:

I've never understood why Daylight Savings is such a big deal to folks here in the US.

At the drop of a hat they will gladly travel 3 time zones away for a vacation or whatever and have no quarrel.  But ask them to adjust just 1 hour twice per year to accommodate better light in waking hours and more efficient energy usage and they lose thier minds.

Don't get it...

LOL! I totally hear you, Kalen. It's hard to explain, but I travel to the Mountain and Pacific time zones for work and pleasure multiple times throughout the course of an average year and am mostly unfazed by it coming from the Eastern time zone. However, when we move the clocks ahead an hour it takes a week for my body to adjust and I'm all outta sorts until then. I don't get it, as going back an hour has no impact on me whatsoever. Going forward and losing that one hour of time turns me into a mess for several days.

I can still vaguely remember the great UK time experiment of 1968 to 1971. I was a mere stripling lad of 7 or 8, so my memories may be a bit false, but I seem to recall REALLY dark mornings walking to school and them having to issue us with reflective armbands and even escort us there and back.

Living up here in the frozen north, it was much worse than for the southern softies of course! Bloody Westminster!

To me the dark at 5:30 is depressing (literally). And in my younger years I had work in London fairly often and it seems the sun was gone soon after 4 in the winter.

I can't understand why the whole world does not use the Universal Time.  One time of day, worldwide. Adjust your schedule, not the clock.

I believe China only has one time zone despite being at least as large as the continental US.

My home in Indiana is due west 850 miles from NYC and we are both Eastern Time. Some days it doesn’t get dark.

I don't think Indiana counts. They change their minds about time every decade.

Each county in Indiana chooses which time zone they prefer. It’s the only choice the legislature will approve.

I’ve spent my life living, working and playing in different time zones. If you play your watch right you can gain or lose two hours a day.

Golfers rounds will only start later in the winter as frost delays will be to 11:00am vs 10:00am.

Golf Pros can now be expected to keep the shop open to 5:00 vs 4:00, heck with their families seeing them a bit more for part of the year.

How will green crews winter tasks be impacted by a “later” sunrise?

For the clubs that operate year round it will definitely have an impact. The dew sweepers as well as the crew will have to make some adjustments.

True I thought of the early birds as well. You won't be able to sneak in a morning 9 before heading to the office as well.

Much less all those kids trying to get to school in the pitch black.

My brother works as a crossing guard part time, and its bad enough in the daytime.

This year I've been trying to bike my three kids (4th grade, 2nd grade, kinder) to school at least half the time. It's about a mile and a half each way. Currently the scoreboard reads bike to school 63, drive to school 58. And when we bike next week (this week was spring break) the head and taillights on our bikes are going to have to be switched back on!

Seeing Marco Rubio gleefully opine on this topic made me realize how truly worthless our legislators are.
An easy policy to pass.......in March.
They can't even see forward to next winter when their constituents(the non golfers) will howl and they'll change it back....

Universal time would make a lot more sense, and adjust schedules.
