Seems a while since we had a golf film to moan about.

The first reply to your post—“An Error Has Occurred!”—is probably an accurate summary of the proceedings. ;)

Here's a question: how many on here think that they could be beat Flitcroft's score of 121 that he had on his initial Open qualifier round played at Formby off the championship tees and played under that scrutiny ?  ;D ;D

I actually somewhat enjoyed the book, especially the part where how much the R&A's feathers were ruffled by this guy.  The guy had heart!

It has a good cast. Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins are very good. I think I'll enjoy it as much as most of the stuff I've been seen over the last two years.

Wasn't there a fellow from Wisconsin who did something similar?  Walter Kazniecki (that's a guess).   Reasoning that   if he was going all that way he wanted to get paid for it sohe declared himself a professional.  He played two rounds despite the authorities attempting to dissuade him from making a second exhibition of himself.  He failed to break 100 either time but was gracious enough to be thankful for the smaller British ball at that time.  His quote was something to the effect that "If I'd played the big American ball I would have been all over the place."

Looked it up, Walter Danecki.  Shot 221 for 36 holes.

Some days you play golf, some days you find things.

I'm not really registered, but I couldn't find a symbol for certifiable.

Danecki or something like that. Think it was 1965 or that sort of year until Maurice smashed his record.

Maurice was on 'a round with Alliss' though I can't remember seeing it and it is not on you tube. At one hole  some trees semi stymied his second shot.

Alliss said...." Are you going around or over Maurice"
Maurice replied... "through them"

Certainly the majority here could. Or (for the older dudes here) would have been able to when they were younger and (mostly likely) fitter.

I saw it last night. It was very good. Bits of poetic licence to 'make it a film' but very enjoyable for anybody.
