Long Cove Club

Long Cove Club is on The Golf Channel this week.  Hosting an NCAA Woman’s event.  Looking forward to seeing the course on TV.

I had the opportunity to play Long Cove in late December -- gorgeous course with several of Mr. Dye's trademarks. Personally I'm not a huge fan of having housing on courses (gets in my head), but I still found the layout to be top notch.


I caught a little bit of the tournament on TV today, and those ladies make it look a lot more playable than I did!

On HHI at the moment.  Thinking about wandering out there in the afternoon depending on how my work schedule plays out.


Looked good on TV today.  It would be good to see the course in person again as it has been way too long.

I understand the significance of Harbour Town but if I were having the choice of which to play, especially as a member, give me Long Cove.  A really solid golf course with great variety and some interesting holes by PD which looks so natural yet required a large amount of dirt moving.

Anthony -- curious if you consider Secession as part of the HHI area? Just curious how you think about those two? I played both recently and personally found Secession to be a more interesting test of golf, especially given how variably the course can play depending on tide / wind.


Not challenging, just curious if perhaps I'm missing something I should pay attention to next time!

I do. I think its #2 or #3 in the area. I always felt the ambiance & "feel" of Secession made some think that the golf course was better than it actually was. Ive never been in love with the sodwalled bunkers, either. I


I always wondered how it would have ended up if Pete completed it instead of going to Kiawah.


I remember the last time I saw was with Mr. Dye at Long Cove, standing on #4 tee. "Where are all these people coming from? I didnt this course for this much golf." Its a testament as to how great the design is & the membership they have built, but it certainly has caused some headaches with consistent needed maintenance.

Interesting perspective -- thank you for sharing. I think there's probably some truth to the ambiance of Secession -- the view from the Clubhouse is significantly different than that at Long Cove.

I haven’t played Long Cove, but based on this thread (and loving Hilton Head) I spent some time on Google Maps looking at it. One question: how easy is the walk? Most of it looks pretty conducive to walking, but there appear to be a couple green to tee transitions that are rather lengthy. Is it walkable?  If not, how much does that take away from the experience at Long Cove?

I was slated to play LCC in 2020, but had to shut it down because of the beginning of the pandemic.

Other than the walk from #12-#13, its very walkable. Over 40% of the membership was walking when I was there & they were fighting over push carts! (sort of, but not really.)
