Jersey Shore GCA event (southern division)
« on: February 21, 2022, 08:28:50 AM »
 ;D

Seems like mother nature is set to shine soon here at the shore. So I'd like to set the dates for the "Summit at the Shore".

We played yesterday (28 degrees at tee off ::) ) but it was very playable ....no wind

It looks like the weekend of March 4th thru 6th works weather wise so game is on!

Going to play two rounds ,  with optional dinner between , at two of the courses down here. One will be “the Shore Club” Looking at either Friday afternoon Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon Sunday am with dinner following round 1.  Given it's Atlantic City there will be some kind of mandatory gambling but will not be punitive  ;D

"Summit at the Shore???" It's clear Archie didn't grow up in God's country. Any gathering over three people from Monmouth County south is a "War at the Shore," no matter the event or intent.

Hope you all get to play and have a great time.

Ok, dates are set for the winter getaway at the shore. Going to be Friday March 4th and Saturday March 5th.  Saturday will be at The Shore Club with Friday still up in the air as to venue. Looks like weather will be warm with temps around 50 degrees both days.

Going to have dinner Friday night in Somers Point following golf. Will have two day champ and daily skin game (optional) . Got a couple fun speakers lined up for Friday and might add a few more. Will have players not GCA affiliated also but looking to hold the field to a max of 24 which makes it manageable.

If someone wants to come for a single day that should be fine, just watching numbers

If you are from Memphis yes , Nashville., I don’t know. Won’t be country music at dinner 🥘

As to Elvis as long as he has a handicap

The last GCA event I attended in the Atlantic City area included dinner at Chef Volas - the very best Italian food you will ever have - it is a must if this will be your only visit to the area.  That is all contingent upon your ability to get a reservation.

Jerry ...we can surely get you in that fabulous restaurant if you ever need a favor. But our dinner next Friday is going to be at my favorite dive bar in the area....where surely we will be treated special  8) 8) 8)

The festivities begin soon!

On Saturday morning I'm going to try and talk Trenham into stopping at The Pines at Clermont (just north of The Shore Club) for a warm-up round.  It is a sleepy little 9-hole course that is worth a visit.  Our planned time at The Pines is 8 AM.

Contact me if interested.

Mayday,

On a 10 round split I'm thinking Joe is picking Clermont over Clayton 8-2.

Really wish I was joining everyone this weekend but sadly a memorial service for a family member is tomorrow.

More like 9-1.

A trek down to Seaview Bay, Atlantic CityCC, Linwood, and The Shore Club would be like a trip to Crail, Leven, Lundin, and Elie.

Had a great time with some old and new friends...thanks to all who visited my favorite little neck of the world. Some wonderful places to visit left within a few miles of where I sit right now.

Nice playing Joe Bausch , and for picking up the lunch bill with most of your skin money!

It was quite the two days.  Most memorable might have been the dinner at Caroline's... and how the place sang in tune when a song was played about how flat-bottomed bunkers make the golfing world go 'round.

You can't make this stuff up.

 ;)

Thanks again Archie.  It was a good two days.  I had never played any of the courses previously. Linwood was a real surprise especially the elevation changes and how well the routing and greens appear to be preserved.

Golf at the shore is at a turning point and its turning upwards.

My guess is that historically everything at the shore was rustic and less than premium starting with the majority of the homes and food options, etc.  First the residents started putting mega bucks into their homes, next came better and better dinning options.  As the private clubs were later to invest they lost members.  Why leave your architecture digest inspired home for a golf club run on a tighter and tighter budget?  Now the clubs are investing and the memberships are at capacity.  With the amount of wealth at the shore I think these clubs are fairly well insulated from a downturn.

Hole-by-hole photo tour of The Shore Club (fka Wildwood CC), an old-school course designed by Wayne Stiles with some subsequent work by the Gordons, then Brian Silva, and currently Tyler Rae:
