I used to live nearby, on the road between Auchenblae and Fettercairn and we had a lot of ferocious winds in that time, but NOTHING that came close to the destruction seen at Edzell. I can only imagine how terrifying that storm must have been.
I'm familiar with Edzell and only hope that when they replant these woodlands that they do it with a broader range of deciduous and coniferous trees. They have the opportunity (albeit forced upon them) to make good decisions on their tree stock for the generations to come. I suspect that many of the trees blown down here, at Forfar, Hazlehead and others are of the type that one want removed in any case.
