Cool Clubhouse Settings
« on: September 27, 2021, 09:12:49 AM »
Just played Eastward Ho and thought that clubhouse setting was special.  Got me thinking of others.

Shoreacres
Shinny
Indian Creek
Kauri Cliffs
Diamond Creek
Maidstone
Cypress
Gulfstream
Lost Farm
Hogs Head
Ardglass
Pinnacle Point
Gamble Sands

and others.....

Crail is one of the first that comes to mind…. Trying to think of other links courses with clubhouses that are directly adjacent to the sea / ocean? Can think of a few that have good long views (Strandhill for one).

Norwood Hills and Beverly. I love an urban setting.

Once while taking a taxi from a casino to Norwood Hills late at night my driver told us that if we wanted to buy drugs he knew someplace much closer.

Edit. My misspellings were above the pail.

Northland Country Club in Duluth, MN is on a hill that overlooks Lake Superior, which looks more like an ocean than a lake.

Shinnecock's clubhouse is an outstanding Stanford White building, but that's not a "setting"
Other than being located in the middle of a Top 5 in the world golf course, on high ground, is it really that great of a setting?
Especially given its proximity to a (now very) busy road cutting right through the property?
Just on the east end of LI, NGLA, Friar's Head, Sebonack and The Bridge are better "settings"

I would also Sleepy Hollow to the list of great settings.

A few standout, but there are a lot of contenders.

UK - Royal Cinque PortsUS - Valley Club, Merion, Austin GC

This picture doesn't capture it as well as it could, but I always like sitting on the deck at Musgrove Mill overlooking nine and eighteen.

Not an official clubhouse per se, but the view from here is pretty special.

The views from Nanea and Kukio are pretty special.
Too bad you don't get a feeling of the elevation drop from the pictures.

I agree with Jeff, Love Shinny, but the road has ruined the setting!

Lot of privates so far, which is OK I guess.  ;)

But I love the back patio overlooking the floating green and Lake Coeur D' Alene on a glorious summer day!

In Maine, both Cape Arundel and Belgrade Lakes have spectacular clubhouse settings. Arundel might be my favorite, because the clubhouse is tiny and looks down on Grist Mill Pond, which flows through Kennebunkport on its way to the Atlantic. And Belgrade, sitting high up on the hill, overlooking 9 and 18 on one side, and Great Pond, Long Pond and Messalonskee on the other, is pretty great in the fall.

Steve,

We played your course over Labor Day and just loved it, the clubhouse, and the staff. We has some thunderstorms and your staff was incredibly nice to us. Thanks to you and the membership for accommodating us.

I'm glad you enjoyed the day and I'm happy you were properly welcomed and accommodated. It's a special place that flies under the radar and we kind of like it that way. If you have occasion to be in Jacksonville again, please let me know, I'd be happy to host you.
