The plan for the new Kingston Heath short course is ridiculous

The quality of the 3D rendering is ridiculous.  I am not completely convinced that the course has not already been built.

The concerns around the technology that allows that and how it may be misused is frightening.

Holy shish kabobs I never would have guessed it was a rendering. Even the players looked real in the distance and the shadowing uniformity is like showing off!

I read their Director of Golf's Justin Burrage's LinkedIn post who said it is drone footage that has been used with the computer renderings.  Great innovation.

They (Harris Kalinka) are incredible at this, but this actually looks like an improvement.  I wonder if they've upgraded anything. 


Hopefully this is what golf video games look like at some point.

Would love to get inside the head of those Harris Kalinka folks.

I do more or less what they are doing but on a much simpler level. I'm guessing it is more sophisticated than Unity

Yes, and no.  We are doing just that at The Lido and there is still a lot to edit, where Peter’s computer game model (as good as it is) does not match the aerial photo of the course.


Also, in a computer sim version there are no heavy rains so no need to worry about real world concerns like DRAINAGE.  The tees are dead flat, greens drain over the faces of bunkers, etc.  In Wisconsin the site is so ridiculously sandy and free draining that this presents few problems, but anywhere else you would have to be much more careful in thinking what goes into the computer.  Just like it’s always been - garbage in, garbage out.

Fair point Tom, not disagreeing. Do you reckon it's likely that as techie stuff continues to develop, especially at the rate things have evolved over the last couple of decades, other aspects will be included or will there maybe be a point when using techie stuff becomes excessively expensive and thus adversely effects the chances of a project happening? Just curious as to how you and others see things morphing over the next few years.
