Being just a touch naughty here but maybe we need the services of someone who is statistically and mathematically minded to undertake a comprehensive analysis of how the tee shot plays depending on wind direction, level of skill of the player, what club was used, whether the player is right or left handed, whether the player played their normal shot shape or tried to work the shot, tee position, firmness of the turf, temperature, time of year, time of day etc etc and compare it to the same data gathered for every day of the previous x number years including the last y number of occasions The Open has been held at RStG. Maybe there’s even someone playing at RStG this week who wishes they had access to such data. (sic).
Makes me wonder how the competitors would approach the tee shot, the whole course even, if there were no spotters, marshalls, spectators, walking media folks, caddies etc etc to help find their ball and if they only had
one ball and if they lost that one ball, RoG 3 minute limit, they’d have finish there and then and walk in.
