1896 Willie Dunn miniature golf links

I found this 1896 newspaper article today reporting Willie Dunn laying out a miniature golf links at Madison Square Garden. Does anyone know of any earlier reports of miniature golf?

Sure sounds like more than a putt putt miniature golf course. This appears to have been an indoor golf school. I have seen articles as to other indoor gold schools that Willie Dunn founded in other States and even Canada. I have yet to document them.
