OT - Trolly Dork?

After walking 18 in the rain this week and another 9 in 92 degree heat, I'm looking at an umbrella to attach to my Clicgear.  Mrs. called me Mary Poppins. Hurtful.

I just got a Cliqgear umbrella on Wednesday to match the trolley. The trolley required a slight adjustment in an effort to position the umbrella as straight up and down as possible. I’m thinking as much for sun protection as rain and looking to try it out tomorrow with more hazy sun and humidity rolling in. Although I’m sure Mrs. Bogey intended no malice the Mill’s Brothers said it the best with “You always hurt the one you love.”

1. If you want to play in the rain, then get a really good rain suit and some good rain gloves.
2. If it is raining so hard that you need an umbrella, then I am afraid there will be larger issues on course.
3. If you seek sun protection, then get a bucket hat or move to Seattle....;-)


But, if you do buy a good umbrella, then please dont forget to buy a "ball retriever" also...;-)..as they go together.


Not a fan of having what basically amounts to a lightning rod protruding from your trolley...p;-)

Of course not, being secure with your manhood includes wearing pink, getting a pedicure, or carrying an umbrella on the course...its all good!

P.S.  Evan F did this years ago at KP in a match against me, and it was just enough to do the trick as I lost on the last hole.

I've seen several people using the umbrella-cliqgear combo, mostly in the rain but sometimes in the sun/ for shade.
I thought it looked very practical and efficient.
And in golf, being practical and efficient is cool.

Don't let the negative Nancies talk you out of it. 


As a long-time user of electric trollies, I have worn out one umbrella. and won't go anywhere without the newer one.


But they have limitations.  Not so good in a rainstorm because they aren't good at sideways rain, much less high winds of any kind.


For baking sun, on a course without a lot of trees, nothing is better. But I recommend the Sun Mountain silver version, because it's several inches taller, which makes it less likely that you'll poke an eye out getting your club.

I've long felt the only thing missing from Ian Poulters on course persona is a colorful umbrella to tote around on those hot days.

P.S.  Bogey you would either be an instant hit/trend setter on the hillbilly tour or permanently banned.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

Thanks Kalen but I'm waiting on Barney to weigh in.  He is the founder of the languishing/defunct Hillbilly Tour and frankly the arbiter of what is cool in both life and golf.  Somewhat like Donald J. Ross he remains underappreciated on this site.


However,  I do recall him wearing a plastic bag on his head in the rain during the King's Putter II Throwback Matches at Pajaro Valley.

I almost always walk and carry but yesterday I used a "trolley with a 'brolly" as I was playing in the light rain.  It was a good way to keep relatively dry which is hard to do when carrying. The rain wasn't hard enough to wear a rain suit or rain gloves and let up after 6 holes or so.
So go for it!

Get the umbrella if you want it. In a light rain, it's very good. In hard sunlight, it's sometimes a Godsend.

Skin cancer isn't great. You'll see a lot of junior girls with umbrellas up on a sunny day. The ClicGear ones are nice in that they're silver, but any umbrella will work "okay." Just make sure it'll fit in the tube (I like the adjustable umbrella sleeve over the static included one) and that the rubber/elastic will hold it in case of a breeze.

Ken Mourn's post was a good one.
Down under in Australia, the umbrellas come out in summer when the heat is dry and strong, and the UV level can be 13.
Nearly 100% of women use them at my club, and about half of the men with Clic buggies.
I don't - I don't have a Clic buggy, and I avoid being on the course during the middle of the day.


Some people will laugh at you on the first hole, but by the 9th hole they will wish they had one.
Their golf will deteriorate on the back 9 from heat stress/dehydration compared to yours, and your reduced UV exposure will mean a lot less sun burn and skin damage.

I'm considering using mine at Sand Valley/Mammoth in a week or two. Along with my sun sleeves and, possibly, my bucket hat (a Shelta Condor). Though, I may save that for the Sandbox, as I generally have only really played golf in baseball-style caps.

Ms Sheila & I both used them quite a bit on our Sun Mountain trollies, 99% of time for the TX sun, rare in rain... will play in rain won't start in rain...  make sure umbrella has the proper vents so you don't become Mary Poppins, now that's an image, Bogey Poppins!

Go ahead, be a rolling mushroom     but still wear a hat.

If you don't want to take reasonable steps to decrease your chances of getting skin cancer, won't hurt me at all. I will take those reasonable steps. I've started wearing sun sleeves because I don't love lathering sunscreen on my arms (I don't mind as much on my legs the few times I wear shorts). Sun sleeves aren't a fashion statement.

And I haven't yet done the umbrella on my cart, but we're doing push carts and all of us are walking, and I probably won't be the only one who considers putting up the umbrella. Again, my daughter and the people she plays against are more likely than not to have an umbrella up on a sunny day, particularly when it's north of 80°.
