Make of this what you will but it certainly gives some different perspectives - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LA0OvJN4Loo&pp=QACIAgA%3D

Fun to watch. Played TOC with hickories and had a blast.

It's really not as hard as he made it look.  I think it was mainly just a lack of familiarity as you could see him adjusting as the round went on.

Not sure why he kept skying his tee shots.  Would have been better off with the driving iron.

Interesting comments I thought from the caddy about why olde features are located where they are and why their positioning makes sense when the course is played in reverse with yee olde day equipment.
Easy to overlook that conditioning would have been a wee bit different back in time too.

I walked the Old Course in reverse a few weeks ago on a Sunday. I really tried to like it, but it was amazingly crap in my opinion in reverse, however the original route was not what they played in old times. There is not one hole better that way though a few get close. Even taking into account that the ground in front is not properly prepared it is still not a good course for the 'ground game' in reverse. I posted pics on my facebook. The holes I thought were pretty good were the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th. 9th and 18th ok.
I came away thinking that the whole course was more up the left and the right hand side was the add on.

With hickories I think the reverse back nine would be really poor if using the front nine portion of the greens there is a lot more difficult ground that you would need loft.
A combination of whats good for golf and good for turf.
