OT: Korn Ferry Brawl at Sand Creek Station
« on: June 15, 2021, 06:47:26 PM »
The details are still rolling in from Monday’s fight at the Korn Ferry Wichita Open qualifier and they are wild | This is the Loop | GolfDigest.com

My son just texted me this news article, which was intriguing because it's one of my designs.  Lost his ball in the left rough at no. 7.  I knew I left that rough a bit too close to the green!

I wouldn't fight a guy for not helping me look for a ball, as I don't think he is obligated to, even if it is courteous.  I would take a swing if I saw it fall out of his pants pocket, lol.

JB,

The instigator was the guy who wouldn't look for the ball. The guy who wanted help, took the high road.

This has nothing to do with architecture. We've sunk so low.

It is pretty sad that Golf Digest doesn’t mention either Ryan French or Laz Versalles in their “article” which is pretty much a regurgitation of their work. Ugh.

Dan Grossman makes a good point. The Golf Digest story links to a much better and more detailed version of the story, posted on FirepitCollective.com, and written by Ryan French and Laz Versalles: https://firepitcollective.com/lets-get-ready-to-rumble/

No mention of whether the ball was ever found. That native cut at Sand Creek is pretty tough - I gotta think not.

I looked at Google Earth, and at least for everyday play, it seems the left gunch is pretty far off line.

We are all part of the mission to "grow the game". If Koepka v DeChambeau is good for the game, then how can anyone argue that this isn't?

Jeff, that was my thought. I mean, everybody hits bad shots sometimes... but if you're in the gunch left of 7, you probably ain't qualifying.

Which, you know, might then make you a little more prone to whining at a competitor. And if that competitor is a douche, he might lose his mind and start trying to beat the hell out of you.

There is an anger in the country that is troubling. It is even in evidence on this and the TP thread. It is troubling.

I'm not part of that mission.

The story would have been better if the perpetrator had attended Duke University.   I grew up about 10 miles from his hometown.  Not unprecedented for a Tipton County boy to start a fracas.  At one point the State of Tennessee was considering putting a prison there by fencing in the entire county.  Unfortunately, the six people who would have had to leave blocked the project.

The real question is whether the young lad could take down Bob Barker or Vernon T, Waldrip in the Woolworth.

People talk about the 'pressure' of the back 9 at Augusta on Sunday, with a chance to win. But that's nothing -- I mean, even if you lose you win: you're already playing in the Masters for goodness sakes! 'Pressure' is being filled with hopes & dreams of a life in pro golf and then finding yourself trying to Monday qualify for spot at a run-of-the-mill Korn Ferry tour event, with your haired-triggered father on the bag and no prospects for anything better.

Does anybody really think Koepka vs. DeChambeau is good for the game?  I thought the game thrived off its perception as a gentlemanly sport.

No John, I don't believe anyone does. I think they see it as a sign of the times in both the world at large, and the PGA TOUR with it's emphasis on these two meatheads as superstars.

It's really sad in my opinion.

Guys like Tony Finau, Colin Morikawa, Jordan Speith and Xander Shauffele, Rory, Hidecki are all such better Flag Bearers for the sport.

Well I was trolling a bit in my initial post, but I believe quite a few people think it's good for the game. A bit of personality doesn't hurt. On this website, where people honestly assail Top Golf as being bad for the game, I'm sure the prevailing opinion will be that it's not good for the game. But sports rivalries are generally better when the rivals genuinely don't like each other.

Back to this brawl situation, a key feature in a number of these golf dust-ups seems to be that it involves a father caddying for his son. Maybe that's where the root problem lies.

Doesn't look good on the dad/caddie of the guy charged with assault either.  He was waving his putter to keep others away. He owns an asset management business.

Ditto-it's only good if you want to bring more tools into the game.
I personally don't.
Quality vs. quantity is the only growth I want to see.
Sadly, a lot of the "media" these days lower the bar-in both their knowledge AND respect for the game.

I'll second/third your opinion, John. Holds no interest for me. Just play.
