If you could design a long par three to play everyday?

There is another hole I can mention.  Four at Hidden Creek is a brilliant redan. The super keeps the ground firm so it actually plays like a redan. The back tee is about 220 and the tee I use is about 200 yards. Fly it all the way to the back left hole location and you're over the green. You have to hit your tee ball to the front and let the terrain feed it to a back hole location. To keep it on the front you have to hit your tee ball high. It is a hole that rewards good thinking and good execution, yet, it does not severely punish a mediocre shot. Par is still possible, just harder to attain. It is one of the holes that I can't wait to play.


The redan is probably the most copied par three in existence, yet, not many courses really pull it off because they keep the ground too soft.

I'd design it like #3 at Olympic with an elevated tee 200+ to a narrow green with traps on both sides[size=78%]. It will be interesting to see how the LPGA plays it for the upcoming Open.[/size]

13 at Quaker Ridge, a Tilly reef hole w multiple lines of play, a deceptive bunker and an immaculately contoured green.

Mine would somehow combine Tillinghast's Reef hole with kickplates and a biarritz green, where front, middle, and back were pinnable. Front and back would be at the same level, because the hole would be reversible. It would play one direction one day, and the other the next, at my whim. As a result, one kickplate would bring the ball in from the right; the opposing one, from the left.

I'd suggest 16 at Royal Melbourne West. The hole is superb and offers up a variety of ways to play it.
For the long hitting player, they can try and fly it the 190yds to the green. But equally the shorter hitter can play a running shot up the front edge.
The Mackenzie bunkering is very well placed. While not deep, it is easy to leave a player with the tricky long bunker shot.
The topography change is really nice and a giant green keeps putting interesting.
