Keepsakes From Golf Clubs
« on: November 12, 2003, 01:33:37 PM »
I just moved into a new place and I was setting about decoration my family room with some golf related items from my travels.  Such as watercolors, flags, etc...

I was curious what are some of the cool items that you have picked up from playing some of the great courses.  This is in exception to shirts, balls, or hats.  I am trying to brainstorm for some items to fill my place up a bit.  Such as a whicker flagstick from Merion..................

I always try to come away with some towels, silverware and wallets...

Nameplates from the men's locker doors...a regular Who's Who at some clubs.  Pocket battery-powered screwdrivers with built-in silencers do the trick.....

certain clubs have their names on the range ball bags, which are great cheap keepsakes, also make for good shagbags.

i won't tell you where mine is from, but let's just say it was defintily worth taking ;)

or the Claret Jug?  I'm sure it would look pretty neat next to your Ping Anser6

dcarroll,

There's this room at Augusta National with all kinds of green jackets in all different sizes. Just slide one on and nobody will notice. You'll fit right in with the crowd.

Billg--not sure I can top that one, but maybe the drivers from all the former US Presidents who were members at Burning Tree.  They'd look great next to my signed pictures of Nancy Lopez and Martha Burke and I'm sure the members of the Tree would love the juxtaposition.

When I was out at Yale, I took home all of the bunkers on the 4th hole.

They tell me that there's a house in Far Hills, NJ that is based on a similar idea.  Filling your house with a bunch of old golf stuff. They maybe able to give a few decorating pointers. Something along the lines of the TV show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

Slightly off topic, but Stan Musial wouldn't fit into my trunk when I visited St. Louis last summer.

Maybe not Stan Musial but have you thought about Ted Williams?

At Chevy Chase Club, the members play a dice game in the bar which utilizes old leather dice cups embroidered with the club logo. Members have been given strict orders not to let the cups leave the bar as they are rather old, and there are not too many of them left.

If you get a can of beer from the bar, you can utilize them as a huggie and walk right out.  ;)

When Mike Sweeney and I stayed overnight at NGLA earlier this year we were tempted to mail the huge statue of CB MacDonald in the clubhouse out to Tommy N in California but we neglected to bring the pickup truck with us.

Mug and coasters from the Tap room and Tenant pint glass fall in the grey area. I really love and use crystal coctail and wine glasses from various clubs around the world I have played at. Good whiskey in a nice crystal glass with TOC or RCD on it make it all that much smoother.

Oh I am sorry I thought you guys were serious. lol

JB,

No need to acquire the Tenant pint glass via the five-finger discount.  I merely asked Steve, the bartender, at The Dunvegan for one and he gladly complied.  Deep down, I know you love that orange block "T" logo, you closet Vol ;)

Mine is prominently displayed in my office.

Regards,

Mike

I have box full of bag towels that I collected from some great and near great courses that I played 10-20 years ago. None have ever been used or washed. I quit collecting them because I had nothing to do with them. They are available if anyone is into collecting bag towels.

Erich Jr. could make a great, or near-great, wall hanging out of them!

Scorecards

or

Some plastic beer cups from my day at the 2002 US Open at Bethpage that have the logo on them.  I think I have a lot of them.  :)

Didn't get Teddy ballgame...  Snuck into the outfield in Yankee Stadium - DID manage to lift plaques of Ruth, Gehrig AND Mantle.

Ebay here I come!
