Jonathan's Landing - Hanse / Wagner / Faxon
« on: March 01, 2021, 03:02:06 PM »
On Instagram today, Brad Faxon had a live story going over the Gil Hanse / Jim Wagner renovation at Jonathan's Landing. There is some information about the project online. The video is long but a cool early look.

He also mentioned that Coore / Crenshaw are doing a course in area and Gil is doing another course in West Palm.

There's 3 courses at Jonathan's Landing.  I'm told this is a rebuild on the Arthur Hills course which was built in the 1980's.

Courses are starting to up their game in Florida.  C&C are doing a 2nd course at MacArthur and Gil is doing a public course in West Palm Beach.

There's some talk of a new 36 hole facility in Ft Lauderdale with a rebuild of Mackenzies lost course called Bayside which was his only course on Long Island.

The golf world really can't thank Mr. Keiser enough. He took an idea (thank you, Mr. Youngscap) and ran and ran and ran with it...then passed the baton to his sons.

Does anyone in Ft. Lauderdale build Bayside without Mr. Keiser's lead? Doubt reigns supreme!

Is that even a good idea?  I know a lot about Mackenzie but I couldn't tell you about a single hole at Bayside.

The Keisers are not involved.

Here's a thread from years ago regarding Bayside with photos.

The new course at Jonathan’s is, as Faxon says, a white board.   The Hills course is being blown up, the new course is completely new in every way. As you heard him say, they are even moving ponds. The routing is very similar to Cc of Fairfield, with a counter clockwise outer loop and a clockwise inner loop.   Along with the commentary you hear from Hanse and Brad and Jim in the initial post, there are lots of “homages” in the plan.....The big bunker shared by 1 and 18, for instance, is an echo of Hell’s Half acre.  There is a Biarritz green, a Punchbowl, a homage to the principals nose, etc etc.   not Templates per se, but inspirations or echoes.   Love the extra short holes for shorter loops and practice.   Very unique and interesting and fun.
